第12章 1-13 善悪の存在

この伝道の書の最終章最終節。

13－14

This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.
事の帰する所は、すべて言われた。すなわち、神を恐れ、その命令を守れ。これはすべての人の本分である。神はすべてのわざ、ならびにすべての隠れた事を善悪ともにさばかれるからである。

神が、善悪をもって、悪を滅ぼす。

日本では、あまり戦争や内戦、宗教の争いで人を殺さなかったという歴史を誇る向きもあるが、善悪を考えない、いい加減でなぁなぁだとも言える。

第11章 1-10 パンを水の上に投げる

Cast your bread on the waters; for you shall find it after many days.
あなたのパンを水の上に投げよ、
多くの日の後、あなたはそれを得るからである。
----

投資を勧めていると解釈する場合もあるようだ。

が、経済的な話ではなく、パン・糧の必要を神の霊に頼めという意味が正しいようである。

ソロモンが唐突に一部の資産家向けの投資話をするとも思えない。

第10章 1-20 以心伝心

Don't curse the king, no, not in your thoughts; and don't curse the rich in your bedroom: for a bird of the sky may carry your voice, and that which has wings may tell the matter.
あなたは心のうちでも王をのろってはならない、
また寝室でも富める者をのろってはならない。
空の鳥はあなたの声を伝え、
翼のあるものは事を告げるからである。
----

悪い意味でも、伝わるものなので、何事もプラスで考えるべきでしょう。

第9章 1-18 ソロモンの達観

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.
わたしはまた日の下を見たが、必ずしも速い者が競走に勝つのではなく、強い者が戦いに勝つのでもない。また賢い者がパンを得るのでもなく、さとき者が富を得るのでもない。また知識ある者が恵みを得るのでもない。しかし時と災難はすべての人に臨む。
----


理由なく苦難を得る者もいる。

ヨブの知り合い3人は偉そうなこと言うわりに、これを知らなかったようだ。

第8章 1-17 悪人がくるところ

So I saw the wicked buried. Indeed they came also from holiness. They went and were forgotten in the city where they did this. This also is vanity.
またわたしは悪人の葬られるのを見た。彼らはいつも聖所に出入りし、それを行ったその町でほめられた。これもまた空である。
----

聖所に出入りしたようだ。
聖なるところに出入りする者が悪を働く場合もあるのだろう。

聖職者がコケれば、地獄でしょう。

第7章 1-29 聖書の語る中庸

ソロモンは言った。

All this have I seen in my days of vanity: there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who lives long in his evildoing. わたしはこのむなしい人生において、もろもろの事を見た。そこには義人がその義によって滅びることがあり、悪人がその悪によって長生きすることがある。
----

そして、義や賢さも過ぎてはならない。悪や愚かさも過ぎてはならない、と言う。

神の言葉ならハッキリしていないが、
偶像にも走ったソロモンの言葉でもあれば、現実的ではあるのでしょう。

第6章 1-12 善を知ることができようか

For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he spends like a shadow? For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?
人はその短く、むなしい命の日を影のように送るのに、何が人のために善であるかを知ることができよう。だれがその身の後に、日の下に何があるであろうかを人に告げることができるか。
----

ニヒリズムに陥っても仕方ないが、
この節はキリスト教らしくないような言い方なので、
あくまでソロモンが考えたことと理解します。

第5章 1-20 眠れない

The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.
働く者は食べることが少なくても多くても、快く眠る。しかし飽き足りるほどの富は、彼に眠ることをゆるさない。
----

眠れなくてもかまわないが、、、。
副作用が知りたい。

不愉快な夢が続き眠れないのなら、遠慮したい。

第4章 1-16 貧しくて賢いわらべ

Better is a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who doesn't know how to receive admonition any more.
貧しくて賢いわらべは、老いて愚かで、もはや、いさめをいれることを知らない王にまさる。
----

その通りだが、かなりの苦難を要するのでしょう。
主に敬虔であることが前提なのは自明でしょう。

第3章 1-22 ソロモンの動物観

ソロモンは続ける

For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity.
人の子らに臨むところは獣にも臨むからである。すなわち一様に彼らに臨み、これの死ぬように、彼も死ぬのである。彼らはみな同様の息をもっている。人は獣にまさるところがない。すべてのものは空だからである。
----

ソロモンの認識では、人と獣は同等のようだ。
人間と動物を明確に線を引き、動物を管理するのが一神教の世界観でしょう。

ソロモンは後半生、偶像に走ったが、その影響なのだろうか。
