第40章 1-16 新総督ゲダリヤ

バビロンがエルサレムを陥落し、王はバビロンに連れていかれた。
総督になったのが、ゲダリヤだった。

Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon; さて野外にいた軍勢の長たちと、その配下の人々は、バビロンの王がアヒカムの子ゲダリヤを立てて、その地の総督とし、男、女、子供、および国のうちのバビロンに移されない貧しい者を彼に委託した事を聞いたので、

彼は、改革派で、王家ではなかったようだ。

勝者にとっては、勝利した土地を誰が治めるか決める場合、
自分の家臣をトップに据える場合と、現地の優秀な人間にさせる場合が考えられる。

エルサレムやユダの地が決して貧しい土地でもないので、
バビロン王はあながち強いだけの人間ではなく、賢明でもあったのでしょう。
